BPL Medical Technologies has acquired a majority shareholding in Medec, a European medical technology company, as part of its strategy to strengthen technology ownership, expand product development capabilities and increase its international presence. The acquisition brings Medec’s specialised technology, intellectual property and engineering capabilities into BPL Medical Technologies’ portfolio. The company, which operates under the BPL Group and has a 60-year legacy in medical equipment, aims to build a globally competitive medical technology business through investments in product development and innovation.

Medec’s portfolio includes anaesthesia workstations and ventilators, supported by three patents and a product development pipeline. The pipeline includes an electronic vaporiser and a value-engineered version of the Caelus anaesthesia workstation. The transaction is intended to give BPL Medical Technologies greater control over product quality, functionality and technology, while reducing its dependence on external suppliers for anaesthesia workstations and ventilators. Bringing Medec’s intellectual property and engineering expertise into the company is also expected to support further product development and strengthen its position in anaesthesia and respiratory care.

Guruswamy Krishnamoorthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, said the acquisition would support the company’s ambition to expand its global presence and strengthen its product capabilities. He added that Medec’s technology, intellectual property and international network complement BPL Medical Technologies’ existing portfolio and could help the company reach new markets.

Medec has an established distributor network across more than 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Southeast Asia and Latin America. This network provides BPL Medical Technologies with an additional route to market for Medec’s CE-certified products and creates opportunities to expand their availability across international healthcare markets.

Kristof Braem, Managing Director of Medec International BV, said joining BPL Medical Technologies would provide opportunities to build on Medec’s existing capabilities and extend its market reach. He said the two companies would work to combine their expertise and resources to support the next stage of growth.

The acquisition also forms part of BPL Medical Technologies’ medium-term plans to develop capabilities in technology, innovation and digital health. The company is exploring ways to integrate Medec’s technologies with its Cortex AI platform, potentially connecting Medec’s anaesthesia capabilities with BPL Medical Technologies’ existing digital technology ecosystem.

The proposed integration could support the development of connected medical technology solutions and broaden the company’s product capabilities. The acquisition strengthens BPL Medical Technologies’ focus on developing in-house technology while using its international network to expand its presence in global healthcare markets.
