Bosch is set to launch ABSi, its latest innovation in anti-lock braking systems, at EICMA 2024 (November 5-7, Milan, Italy). Following the 2023 release of MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control) for smaller bikes, Bosch now aims to expand the reach of MSC across various motorcycle categories.
The ABSi system integrates an inertial measurement unit directly into the ABS, streamlining design by eliminating the need for a separate unit and reducing wiring complexity. Advanced rider assistance systems (ARAS) from Bosch, including five new functions, are designed to enhance safety and riding enjoyment.
These features, which could prevent one in six accidents on German roads, include front-facing functions such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), group ride assist, riding distance assist, and emergency brake assist, as well as rear-facing features like rear distance and collision warnings. These technologies will debut on the KTM 1390 Super Adventure S EVO, on display at Bosch’s EICMA booth.
Bosch will also showcase race eCBS, a system developed in partnership with Ducati for its Panigale V4 S 7G. Built on the eCBS (electronic combined braking system), race eCBS applies braking to both wheels even if only one brake is engaged, optimizing brake distribution for high-performance track use.
In addition, Bosch is advancing two-wheeler powertrains with electrification solutions tailored for various vehicle types. Its new 2 kW drive control unit, suited for smaller electric vehicles, integrates multiple functions into a compact form, enabling smoother starts and cruise control. With features like electric traction control and energy recuperation, this unit supports efficient battery use, extending the range by up to 8%.
It continues to enhance combustion technology as well, offering engine management systems that meet emissions standards like Euro 5 and Bharat Stage 6, along with components compatible with fuel blends up to E100 and CNG/LPG. Additional features like driving modes and quick-shift capabilities are easily implemented via the control unit.
Bosch is also bringing over-the-air (OTA) updates and on-demand features to motorcycles, allowing riders to add new functions after purchase through their smartphone. Bosch’s TFT displays, available in sizes up to 10.25 inches, support these digital upgrades with excellent readability due to advanced optical bonding.
