BorgWarner has clinched a major contract to deliver turbochargers for a 1.6-liter engine used in hybrid electric SUVs by a prominent East Asian automotive manufacturer. This program is part of a long-standing partnership that spans over 18 years and further cements BorgWarner’s role as a top supplier of engine boosting solutions.
The turbocharger, developed for hybrid applications, features advanced wastegate technology aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency and performance. The system includes a specially designed actuator and optimized valve for precise boost management, ensuring quick throttle response, smoother acceleration, and improved overall driving experience.
“This contract is a testament to our ability to provide high-efficiency turbocharging technologies that align with the customer’s hybrid vehicle plans,” stated Dr Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc and head of the Turbos and Thermal Technologies division. “We are proud to build on our trusted collaboration by supporting their next generation of electrified vehicles.”
Built to handle the high thermal demands of hybrid powertrains, the new turbocharger system is engineered for durability and minimal energy loss. Its design not only improves long-term reliability under high-temperature conditions but also contributes to reduced emissions and better fuel economy.
Manufacturing will commence in 2027 at BorgWarner’s Pyongtaek plant in South Korea, ensuring efficient production and timely delivery to the regional market.
