BorgWarner has secured a new contract to supply its wastegate turbochargers for a hybrid version of a global automaker’s upcoming sports car. The agreement strengthens BorgWarner’s ongoing relationship with the carmaker and highlights growing demand for its turbo technology. Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2028.
“This deal marks another step forward for our team,” said Dr Volker Weng, Vice President at BorgWarner and head of the Turbos and Thermal Technologies division. “Our wide range of boosting systems played a big role in winning this contract.”
The company’s wastegate turbos are designed to improve engine performance, with fast throttle response and strong power delivery. Built to handle high heat—up to 1050°C—the turbo setup supports engines with up to 450 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This means quicker acceleration and solid performance, without adding unnecessary weight.
These turbos are suited for gasoline engines ranging from 0.9 to 3.0 liters. They’re controlled electronically, helping manage engine pressure efficiently to boost fuel economy and cut emissions. BorgWarner offers the system in multiple layouts—including single-scroll, twin-scroll, and dual volute—to reduce engine noise and vibration, improving the driving experience.
This latest deal adds to a string of recent wins for BorgWarner in the turbo segment, reinforcing its position as a key player in performance and hybrid vehicle technologies.
