BorgWarner has expanded its presence in China with two significant contracts for dual-clutch transmission (DCT) technologies. The agreements include a new deal with a prominent Chinese transmission manufacturer and an extension of an existing contract with a German OEM based in China.
“This latest achievement highlights BorgWarner’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in the Chinese market,” said Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President at BorgWarner Inc and President of Drivetrain and Morse Systems. “Our goal is to support our customers’ growth in China and help them succeed on a global scale.”
As part of the agreement with the German OEM, BorgWarner secured a seven-year extension for its DCT clutch assembly. This partnership, which has spanned over a decade, was extended due to BorgWarner’s extensive expertise in DCT technology, serving both traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and mild hybrid models. The clutch assemblies, produced in BorgWarner’s Tianjin facility, outperform conventional systems by reducing rotational inertia and minimizing friction losses, resulting in better transmission efficiency and a more responsive driving experience.
In addition, BorgWarner secured a new DCT clutch program with a leading Chinese transmission manufacturer. This product will be used in SUVs and sedans for a major Chinese OEM, aimed at both the domestic market and export. Manufactured at BorgWarner’s Taicang facility, the clutch module features a compact design, excellent thermal robustness, and cost-effective performance. Its ability to handle extreme conditions, such as hill-starts and optimal racing starts, makes it ideal for various driving scenarios. Full-scale production is expected to begin by the end of 2025.
