BorgWarner, a global leader in mobility solutions, has extended its wastegate turbocharger contracts with a major North American automaker, ensuring continued production for midsized gasoline engines through 2028 and beyond. These turbocharged engines will power a range of the automaker’s SUVs and trucks, reinforcing BorgWarner’s long-standing role as a trusted supplier.

The wastegate turbo technology features a durable yet lightweight design, ensuring quick boost response and enhanced engine performance. All turbos in the extended contract include electrically actuated wastegate systems, allowing for precise boost control, improved fuel efficiency, and lower emissions.

Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President & GM of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, stated:“Our collaboration with this OEM spans over a decade, and these contract extensions highlight the strength of our partnership. We look forward to delivering high-performance turbochargers that continue to enhance vehicle efficiency and power through the rest of this decade and beyond.”

BorgWarner’s wastegate turbochargers optimize airflow and engine output, delivering more horsepower in compact engine designs. Depending on the application, some engines require a single turbo, while others integrate twin turbo systems.

Although the contract extension does not require major technology adjustments, BorgWarner’s initial designs underwent extensive engineering refinements to maximize performance and efficiency. With a legacy spanning over 130 years, BorgWarner continues to drive mobility innovation, focusing on sustainability and cleaner energy solutions for the future of transportation.
