BorgWarner has signed a new supply agreement with a prominent Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for its latest-generation electric motors, reinforcing the company’s growing footprint in China’s fast-expanding new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The motor awarded under this program is built on a versatile platform architecture, enabling application across a complete portfolio of NEVs, from battery electric to hybrid models. It integrates BorgWarner’s proprietary ultra-short hairpin welding process, which reduces end-turn height for a more compact design and optimised space utilisation, delivering higher efficiency and performance.

“Our collaboration with this customer spans almost ten years, and this new business win reflects the trust we’ve built together,” said Dr Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems. “We remain dedicated to developing advanced, efficient motor technologies that support the industry’s transition to electrification.”

China’s NEV sector continues to expand at a rapid pace, and BorgWarner’s technology-driven motor solutions are steadily capturing new programs. To address this momentum, the company is scaling its manufacturing capabilities in the region.

Earlier in 2025, BorgWarner signed a memorandum of understanding with the Wuhu municipal government to establish a new manufacturing hub for electric drive systems. The facility, now nearing completion, will feature intelligent production lines capable of building multiple motor platforms on shared systems, boosting output capacity and positioning the company for large-scale deliveries.

BorgWarner has a strong commitment to sustainability, developing technologies that improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance vehicle performance. The company serves a diverse customer base, including automakers, suppliers, and consumers worldwide, with a growing emphasis on electric mobility and hybrid systems. Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, BorgWarner operates in multiple countries and continues to lead the way in advancing automotive technologies.
