BorgWarner has successfully secured contracts to provide its cutting-edge electric cross differential (eXD) technology to three prominent original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including GAC Motor, a leading Global East Asian automaker, and another major European OEM. The eXD is an integral component of BorgWarner’s electric torque management system (eTMS) portfolio.

This advanced system is designed to intelligently regulate wheel torque, enhancing vehicle stability, delivering superior dynamic performance, and boosting traction during both acceleration and launch phases. The contracts with these three key OEMs involve deploying the eXD technology in various battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including front-wheel and rear-wheel drive models.

This encompasses a range of vehicle types, from high-performance sports cars and luxury sedans to practical hatchbacks. Production of GAC Motor’s models featuring the eXD technology is already underway, while the European OEM’s production is anticipated to commence in 2026.

The eXD technology is part of BorgWarner’s broader electric torque management system (eTMS), which addresses common challenges faced by electric vehicles (EVs), such as insufficient power output and suboptimal control. By precisely managing wheel torque, the eTMS system significantly improves traction control, vehicle stability, cornering ability, and lane-changing performance.

Additionally, it enhances overall efficiency and safety, making electric vehicles more reliable and enjoyable to drive. Isabelle McKenzie, President and General Manager of BorgWarner’s Drivetrain and Morse Systems division, highlighted that the eXD’s innovative design is both sophisticated and versatile, reflecting BorgWarner’s extensive industry expertise.

The eXD technology is compatible with various drive architectures, and its performance characteristics can be individually tailored. This adaptability helps in reducing energy consumption and minimizes the reliance on the vehicle’s braking system, further contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall driving experience.
