BorgWarner, a major American company focused on electrification products like electric motors and EV transmissions, has opened a new high-voltage (HV) testing lab at its India Propulsion Engineering Centre (IPEC) in Bengaluru. This new lab covers around 11,600 square feet and will help BorgWarner engineers improve product development.
The lab will test various electric propulsion systems, including HV traction motors, inverters, and DC-DC converters. It also supports testing integrated motor and inverter systems with a 350kW, 400-800V eDyno. Additionally, it can test low-voltage electric drive components such as pump motors and clutch actuators. The facility will begin eDyno testing in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Designed with BorgWarner’s global best practices and safety standards, this lab will support over 700 engineers at IPEC. It will enable them to develop unique solutions and address product issues effectively. The lab will also help BorgWarner collaborate with global customers and innovate for both local and international markets.
Chandrasekar Krishnamurthy, BorgWarner’s Global Engineering Director, emphasized the importance of India in their global engineering efforts. He noted that the lab would build the necessary competencies and infrastructure to support local customers cost-effectively.
The new facility will also serve as a product demonstration center for customers in India, providing insights into BorgWarner’s propulsion systems. According to Dwarka Simili, Head of IPEC, the lab shows BorgWarner’s commitment to India’s strategic role in their global operations and will foster closer interactions and collaborations with local customers.
