Bonfiglioli Transmissions Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of the global power transmission leader Bonfiglioli Group, has announced a major expansion in India. The company laid the foundation stone for a new Industry and Automation facility in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu, and inaugurated its Technology and Innovation Hub in Chennai.
The upcoming 25-acre Cheyyar plant, expected to begin operations by 2025, is part of Bonfiglioli’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. It will be one of the largest gearbox manufacturing facilities in the country, equipped with advanced machinery, and is set to generate 150-200 new jobs. This facility will meet the rising domestic demand for heavy-duty industrial gearboxes and builds on Bonfiglioli’s previous investments in Pune, which expanded production for light and medium-duty gearboxes.
The newly launched Bonfiglioli Technology Space in Chennai will serve as a global center of excellence, housing 180 engineers. It will focus on research and development, offering technical support and utilizing advanced technologies to create innovative solutions. The facility also includes testing laboratories designed to simulate real-world conditions for product development.
Sonia Bonfiglioli, Chairwoman of Bonfiglioli S.p.A., highlighted the company’s growth ambitions: “With a targeted turnover of ₹1,900 crore by the end of the year, Bonfiglioli is set for significant expansion in India.
