BMW India Foundation, in collaboration with Smile Foundation, has launched a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education initiative across schools in Delhi NCR. The program, which aims to reach over 2,500 students annually from underprivileged backgrounds, was introduced in February 2025.
Targeting students in grades 6-8, the initiative will span 25 schools in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram, including 5 government-aided and 20 community schools in low-income areas. The program combines two approaches to delivering STEM education: setting up state-of-the-art labs in government-aided schools and utilizing ‘STEM on Wheels’ mobile labs to bring hands-on learning to smaller community schools. These labs will be equipped with advanced tools, including digital resources, robotic models, and comprehensive learning kits.
“This initiative is part of BMW India Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth through education and innovation,” said Vikram Pawah, President and CEO, BMW Group India. “By offering modern labs and mobile STEM education, we are nurturing creativity and problem-solving skills in young minds, helping prepare them for a technology-driven future and fostering inclusivity in STEM fields, especially for underprivileged children.”
The mobile labs are powered by solar energy, ensuring access to STEM learning in areas with limited electricity. Additionally, the program will feature workshops, an annual science fair, and innovation challenges to engage and inspire students. This initiative supports India’s National Education Policy, which emphasizes STEM education as crucial for developing critical thinking and innovation skills needed for the future workforce.
By addressing the skills gap, particularly in low-income communities and among girls, the BMW India Foundation aims to expand access to STEM opportunities for underrepresented groups. This effort complements BMW Group’s ongoing partnership with UNICEF in the “BRIDGE. Educating young people for tomorrow, today” initiative, which aims to provide quality STEM education to 100,000 children across India.
