Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd. has partnered with the Government of Goa to enhance plastic waste management practices in Mormugao, Vasco. The collaboration was formalized with the exchange of a letter of intent (LOI) between Bisleri and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) during the Green Goa Summit 2024, held at the Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula, Goa. The initiative is part of Bisleri’s CSR program, ‘Bottles for Change,’ which aims to promote sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

The partnership brings together key entities, including the GSPCB, Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), and the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), to tackle waste management challenges in the region, particularly in plastic waste. The focus will be on raising awareness about effective waste management practices among residents, businesses, and educational institutions, as well as improving the efficiency of dry and plastic waste collection, segregation, and recycling.

As part of the collaboration, staff at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) managed by the MMC will receive training, and support will be provided for Self-Help Group (SHG)-run recovery facilities at Harvalem. The initiative will be implemented with the assistance of SampurnEURarth Environment Solution Pvt. Ltd., Bisleri’s local waste management partner in Goa.

Mahesh K. Patil, Chairman of the GSPCB, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it will bring about meaningful environmental and public health improvements in Goa. K. Ganesh, Director of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs at Bisleri International, expressed gratitude to the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Goa Waste Management Corporation, Mormugao Municipal Council, and the Government of Goa for their support. He highlighted that the collaboration represents a major step forward in improving plastic waste management in Mormugao, benefiting both the community and the environment.

During the summit, Bisleri also introduced the book “Towards Responsible Use of Plastics,” a manual for schools developed in partnership with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE). The manual encourages students to practice the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle to promote sustainable plastic use.

The summit, attended by key stakeholders including Mahesh Patil, Chairman of GSPCB; Aleixo Sequeira, Goa’s Minister for Environment; and Union Minister for Power & New Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, focused on strategies for advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Goa.

Bisleri’s ‘Bottles for Change’ initiative, part of its Greener Promise campaign, has engaged over one million citizens across 20 cities, promoting environmental sustainability and responsible recycling practices.
