Grasim Industries Ltd, a part of the Aditya Birla Group, has officially begun operations at its fourth paint manufacturing facility in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka. This expansion elevates Birla Opus Paints to the position of India’s second-largest decorative paints manufacturer by installed capacity.
The new plant, with an annual capacity of 230 million litres, increases the company’s total capacity to 866 million litres per annum. It will produce water-based, enamel, and wood finish paints using cutting-edge fourth-generation manufacturing technology and a zero liquid discharge process.
Grasim has invested ₹8,470 crore of its planned ₹10,000 crore for the paints division. Two more plants are under development: the Mahad facility near Pune, currently in trial production, and the Kharagpur facility near Kolkata, which is under construction.
Since its 2024 launch, Birla Opus Paints has introduced 129 products with over 900 SKUs, reaching more than 4,300 towns across India. Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla confirmed the company is on course to achieve its ₹10,000 crore revenue target within three years of full-scale operations. Additionally, the company has launched a pilot program called PaintCraft Partner, a franchisee-driven painting services initiative, further expanding its offerings in the market.
