Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), a public sector enterprise, has announced that it has won a Rs 7,500 crore order from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) for the construction of an 800 MW unit at the Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat. The project, scheduled to begin commercial operations within 54 months, involves setting up a 1×800 MW unit under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. The new unit will be located at the existing ash dyke area of the plant in Tapi district, Gujarat.

BHEL’s role in the project will include the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, testing, and commissioning of all systems, including electrical, civil, and structural works. The company will also provide advanced emission control systems to ensure the plant operates efficiently and within environmental standards.

This latest order further strengthens BHEL’s long-standing relationship with GSECL, as the company had previously installed the first thermal unit at Ukai in 1976. With over 1,70,000 MW of installed power capacity across India, BHEL continues to contribute significantly to the country’s energy security and supports the national push for self-reliance in the power sector.
