Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), one of the well-known engineering and manufacturing enterprises, has recently secured a contract worth Rs 19,400 crore from NLC India Ltd, a lignite mining and power generation specialist, for Talabira Power Plant in Odisha.

In the most recent bidding phase concerning the three ultra-supercritical units at Talabira, BHEL emerged as the sole participant, as confirmed by NLC India. Notably, a collaboration between Larsen & Toubro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries opted out from participating in this final bidding round, as disclosed by the company. NLC India has also mentioned that the contractual details for the project are currently undergoing finalization, with the awarding process anticipated to conclude within a month, according to the company’s statement. The Talabira Power Plant project spans across three distinct areas, each showcasing the innovative use of ultra-supercritical technology. These sections, each capable of producing 800 megawatts of power, signify not just significant electricity generation but also a strong dedication to environmental awareness.
