Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the state-owned engineering giant, has secured a major equipment supply order valued at ₹6,500 crore (excluding GST) from Adani Power Limited. The contract involves supplying steam turbine generators and auxiliary systems for six thermal power units of 800 megawatts each, along with providing supervisory services for erection and commissioning.
According to BHEL, the order has been placed by a domestic client and does not fall under related party transactions. The execution schedule will align with Adani Power’s project timelines. The announcement comes alongside the release of BHEL’s fourth-quarter earnings, which fell short of market expectations.
The company reported a net profit of ₹504 crore, a 4% increase year-on-year but well below the ₹696 crore. Revenue for the quarter rose 9% to ₹8,993.4 crore, missing the estimated ₹10,715 crore. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at ₹831 crore—14.2% higher than the previous year’s figure, yet lower than the anticipated ₹1,023 crore. The EBITDA margin improved modestly to 9.25% from the year-ago level but remained below the expected 9.55%.
Despite the earnings miss, the large-scale order from Adani Power marks a significant addition to BHEL’s project pipeline, strengthening its position in the domestic power equipment sector.
