Bharat Forge Unveils Major Defence Manufacturing Facility in Jejuri to Boost Indigenous Artillery Production

Bharat Forge

Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a prominent global leader in metal forging and engineering, has announced the launch of a cutting-edge, 300,000 sq. ft. defence manufacturing facility in Jejuri, near Pune. This facility, designed with a flexible multi-model layout and advanced testing capabilities, is poised to become a vital centre for the production of indigenous artillery systems and specialized defence vehicles.

However, the plant is still awaiting final regulatory approvals before commencing full-scale operations. Strategically located with direct highway access, close proximity to key suppliers, and access to a highly skilled workforce, the Jejuri facility is set to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. Once operational, the plant will produce a broad array of advanced defence systems, solidifying Bharat Forge’s position as a leader in defence manufacturing.

The investment in this new facility comes in anticipation of significant defence contracts from both domestic and international markets. The plant is specifically equipped to produce the indigenously developed Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD). These state-of-the-art 155mm howitzers, created in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are set to significantly enhance India’s artillery capabilities. Bharat Forge is already a key exporter of advanced artillery systems to allied nations worldwide.

Upon full activation, the Jejuri facility will be a milestone in India’s defence manufacturing landscape, contributing to strategic autonomy and positioning the country as a major global defence exporter. The ATAGS program exemplifies India’s engineering prowess, and Bharat Forge is committed to continuing the development of top-tier artillery and mobility solutions that will define the future of modern warfare.
