Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has received new orders valued at ₹572 crore. The contracts cover a range of advanced defence technologies, including integrated drone detection and interdiction systems (IDDIS), software defined radios (SDRs), and data communication units (DCUs) for attack systems.
Additional orders include artificial intelligence-based solutions for naval platforms, simulators, communication systems, electronic jamming devices, spare components, and associated services. These procurements further reinforce BEL’s strategic role in bolstering India’s defence capabilities and supporting the country’s self-reliance objectives in military technology.
The current orders follow a ₹2,210 crore contract awarded in April 2025 by the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Electronic Warfare (EW) suites for the Indian Air Force’s Mi-17V5 helicopters. These systems—developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by BEL—include a radar warning receiver (RWR), missile approach warning system (MAWS), and countermeasure dispensing system (CMDS).
Designed to improve survivability in high-threat environments, the EW suites are intended to detect and counter radar- and missile-based threats. Recent regional security developments have highlighted the critical need for indigenous defence solutions, including India’s deployment of loitering munitions to successfully neutralise adversary air defence systems.
The announcement of new contracts and ongoing defence production initiatives has led to a positive response in Indian defence sector equities. Share prices of domestic defence companies, including BEL, recorded gains, while defence suppliers to regional adversaries reported losses. Investor confidence was further strengthened following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public address on May 12, during which he reaffirmed the government’s policy emphasis on domestic defence manufacturing and the strategic goal of achieving technological self-sufficiency in the sector.
