BEML Limited has opened its new warehousing facility at the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bengaluru. Covering 0.12 acres, the facility was officially launched by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, alongside company directors, senior staff, and KIADB officials.
As part of its ongoing efforts to scale up aerospace operations, BEML also laid the foundation for Phase II of the project, which will involve the development of an additional 1.15-acre area within the same SEZ. The company holds a total of 25 acres in the zone and intends to gradually build it into a manufacturing and logistics hub tailored to the needs of the growing defence and aviation industries.
At the event, Shantanu Roy remarked that the new warehouse represents a key step in BEML’s strategy to support aerospace and defence production in India. He emphasized the facility’s role in enabling future capabilities such as advanced manufacturing, maintenance and repair operations (MRO), and support for global export standards.
The SEZ, located close to Kempegowda International Airport, is part of BEML’s broader plan to establish a dedicated production unit across 20 acres. This unit will focus on manufacturing aerostructures, drones, components, and systems for air defence. BEML aims to collaborate with international aerospace firms to build out this capability and supply chain.
For warehouse management and related services, BEML has signed an agreement with LOM Logistics India Pvt. Ltd., a company experienced in SEZ and Domestic Tariff Area operations. The facility will also offer services to other OEMs, as well as Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers.
Well-positioned near major highways, the Outer Ring Road, and the airport, the SEZ location is expected to become a logistics and trade centre. BEML estimates that the project will create over 500 jobs, contributing to the local economy. Looking ahead, the company plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Aerospace Technologies at the site, aiming to promote local innovation and strengthen India’s position in the global aerospace and defence landscape.
