BEML Ltd., a prominent Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) under the Ministry of Defence, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to collaborate on maritime projects and composite technologies. This partnership will play a significant role in strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.
The MoU was signed by Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML Ltd., and Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director of GSL, with senior officials from both organizations present. The collaboration will leverage BEML’s engineering expertise and GSL’s shipbuilding proficiency to explore new opportunities in the maritime sector, supporting India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” vision by driving technological self-reliance in defence technologies.
Shri Shantanu Roy expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a major step in advancing India’s maritime sector. By combining our strengths, we are ready to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions that will reduce reliance on imports and enhance India’s capabilities in both the defence and maritime sectors.”
The partnership will focus on the manufacturing of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite parts for defence and commercial uses, as well as producing specialized marine equipment like dredgers and suction hopper dredgers. Additionally, BEML will utilize GSL’s ship lift and dry dock facilities for the maintenance and repair of vessels from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and merchant fleets. Through this MoU, BEML aims to contribute its technical expertise to the development of strategic marine equipment, helping bolster India’s maritime defence capabilities with indigenous solutions.
