Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has signed a significant contract with the Ministry of Defence valued at ₹1,640 crore (excluding taxes) for the supply of Air Defence Fire Control Radars (Atulya) to the Indian Army. These state-of-the-art radar systems, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by BEL, are designed to deliver robust air defence capabilities across day and night, and in all weather conditions.

The systems come equipped with electronic countermeasure (ECM) features and serve multiple roles — including surveillance, target acquisition, tracking of aerial threats, and directing air defence guns for precise engagement. Designed with a modular architecture, the radars ensure swift deployment and simplified maintenance, providing the Army with a cutting-edge, mobile, and reliable system to counter aerial threats effectively. This adaptability enhances operational readiness and supports rapid response in dynamic combat environments.

The radar order adds to Bharat Electronics Limited’s (BEL) expanding portfolio. Since its last update on June 30, 2025, the company has secured additional contracts worth ₹563 crore. These new orders cover key defence technologies, including infrastructure for National Maritime Domain Awareness, Inertial Navigation Systems for artillery units, and advanced communication systems, reinforcing BEL’s role in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. These orders underscore BEL’s role in strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence technology and its long-standing partnership with the country’s armed forces.
