Beckhoff Automation is expanding the performance of its Industrial PC portfolio by integrating Intel® Core™ Series 2 processors into the C6040 ultra-compact Industrial PC, C6640, C6650 and C6675 control cabinet Industrial PCs, and the C5240 19-inch slide-in Industrial PC. The processor upgrade delivers higher computing performance for demanding automation, control, machine vision and artificial intelligence applications.

The Intel Core Series 2 processor family offers up to 12 performance cores, with base clock speeds of up to 4 GHz and turbo frequencies reaching 5.9 GHz. The processors are designed for applications requiring high single-core performance as well as workloads that can benefit from multiple powerful cores.

According to Beckhoff, the processors’ uniform core architecture offers advantages for industrial applications where predictable and consistent computing performance is important. It can also simplify engineering compared with hybrid CPU architectures that combine different types of cores.

Felix Wildemann, Product Management Industrial PC at Beckhoff Automation, said the new processors provide benefits for performance-intensive industrial applications, particularly those requiring high single-thread performance. He also noted that Intel’s Bartlett Lake 12P processors represent a positive development for embedded industrial computing.

The C6040 ultra-compact Industrial PC, measuring 132 x 202 x 76 mm, combines a compact design with high computing power. The system is designed for demanding applications such as complex axis control, advanced HMI systems and machines with very short cycle times. It is also suited to machine learning and machine vision applications at the industrial edge.

Todd Matsler, Senior Director and General Manager, Manufacturing Segment at Intel Corporation, said the C6040’s Intel Core Series 2 processors provide deterministic computing performance for industrial workloads. He added that the platform supports real-time control as well as advanced vision and AI applications within a compact industrial PC.

The C6640, C6650 and C6675 models feature an ATX motherboard and support a broad range of configuration options. These include large, high-performance graphics cards for demanding machine learning and machine vision applications. The systems are designed to provide the computing resources required for advanced automation and industrial systems.

The C5240 19-inch slide-in Industrial PC is also equipped with high-performance components and is intended for machine and plant engineering applications. Its configuration enables users to deploy powerful computing capabilities in conventional control cabinet environments.

With the latest processor options, Beckhoff is strengthening its PC-based control portfolio and bringing higher computing performance closer to industrial machines. The combination of powerful Intel processors and Beckhoff’s automation technology enables manufacturers to handle increasingly complex control, vision, AI and data-processing workloads on a common industrial computing platform.
