BatX Energies Pvt Ltd, a prominent player in lithium-ion battery recycling, has inaugurated its Critical Minerals Extraction facility, HUB-1, in Uttar Pradesh. This advanced plant is designed to extract key materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from used lithium-ion batteries, reducing India’s dependence on imports and supporting its electric vehicle (EV) expansion, Net Zero 2070 target, and AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative.
The new facility follows the success of BatX’s Black Mass production unit in Sikandrabad, launched in late 2022. Developed after a 21-month industrial pilot program initiated in mid-2023, HUB-1 utilizes BatX’s proprietary hydrometallurgical process to recover high-purity critical materials for battery production.
The plant is capable of recycling all types of lithium-ion battery waste, including rejects from emerging gigafactories. BatX Energies addresses the challenges of sourcing critical materials outside China, offering a vertically integrated solution that combines material extraction with second-life applications for batteries. The zero-emission, zero-waste facility operates with minimal energy consumption while adhering to strict ESG standards and aligns with India’s Battery Waste Management Rules 2022.
