Battery Smart, India’s largest battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers, has partnered with the Delhi Traffic Police to launch a road safety and traffic awareness program targeted at e-rickshaw drivers in the capital. The initiative reached over 100 drivers, educating them on critical road safety topics such as responsible driving, traffic regulations, battery safety, and monsoon-specific precautions. The goal is to promote safer driving practices and increase awareness within this essential segment of urban transportation.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Ajay Kumar, Executive Magistrate of South West Delhi, representing Lakshay Singhal, IAS, District Magistrate. Senior officials from the Delhi Traffic Police and the leadership team of Battery Smart were also present at the occasion.

In his address, Shri Kumar emphasized, “Safer roads begin with awareness and responsible driving. Programs like this bridge knowledge gaps and turn awareness into actionable driving behavior. E-rickshaw drivers are crucial to Delhi’s transport ecosystem, and initiatives like this by Battery Smart and the Delhi Traffic Police are vital for fostering safe driving habits and promoting traffic discipline. Such collaborative efforts are key to ensuring safer roads.”

Capt Hamendra Sharma, VP of Special Operations at Battery Smart, highlighted the importance of e-rickshaw drivers in the country’s electric mobility transition, saying, “E-rickshaw drivers play a pivotal role in delivering clean, affordable, and last-mile transportation. At Battery Smart, we are committed to supporting them not just with our battery-swapping network but also by raising awareness about safe on-road practices. This partnership with the Delhi Traffic Police aims to build a safer and more responsible EV ecosystem by educating drivers on better road behavior, ensuring public trust in e-mobility, and creating a sustainable urban transport system.”

The session featured hands-on training with expert instructors from the Delhi Traffic Police and Battery Smart’s on-ground team. Key topics included real-life case studies, responsible driving, battery handling basics, electrical safety, and parking protocols—all addressing the daily challenges faced by e-rickshaw drivers. The event concluded with a certificate and felicitation ceremony, honoring drivers who showed exceptional commitment to road safety.

Battery Smart places a strong emphasis on driver and station partner safety. All new drivers go through a mandatory safety training module upon onboarding, and the company conducts ongoing educational campaigns throughout the year.

Having recently celebrated its five-year anniversary, Battery Smart now operates over 1,500 swap stations across more than 50 cities in India, serving over 70,000 drivers. The company remains dedicated to making electric mobility both affordable and accessible to all.
