As part of its ongoing transformation, Bata India, one of the country’s most iconic and trusted footwear brands, has made a significant leap forward with a ₹300 million investment in its Batanagar factory. This strategic move strengthens the company’s focus on manufacturing excellence and enhances its global competitiveness.

A key element of this investment is the installation of advanced Polyurethane Direct Injection Process (PUDIP) and IM EVA machines, designed for the production of Floatz and Bata Industrial footwear. These cutting-edge systems, featuring robotic spraying, automated roughening arms, and mold-handling capabilities, are set to improve product consistency, precision, and overall production efficiency.

Anjan Kundu, Head of Supply Chain Management at Bata India, commented, “This investment underscores our dedication to modernizing our manufacturing process and leading with superior quality.” He added, “Revitalizing Batanagar is a crucial part of our transformation, reflecting our commitment to quality, innovation, and an exceptional customer experience. By integrating advanced technologies, we’re not just enhancing our operations but also setting a new benchmark for footwear manufacturing in India.”

The factory also adheres to stringent Safety Management systems, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety for its workforce. Batanagar holds historical significance in West Bengal’s industrial development, dating back to Thomas Bata’s visit in the 1930s, which spurred the creation of the exclusive township and catalyzed the region’s growth into an export hub for shoemaking.

In the past year, Bata has expanded its reach by opening 130 new stores, with over half located in smaller towns, bringing international trends and comfort technology to ‘Bharat.’ With more than 500 stores, the company is also rapidly growing its franchise network in smaller cities, offering entrepreneurial opportunities across the nation. Bata’s commitment to social responsibility continues through its Bata Children’s Program, providing underserved children across India with education, mentorship, and footwear.

Focusing on quality, sustainability, and innovation, Bata India is redefining its legacy, preparing for the future, and continuing to lead the way in global footwear manufacturing, proudly stepping forward to “Shoe the World” from India.

For nearly a century, Bata India has been synonymous with trust and quality. The brand has continuously evolved to meet the diverse needs of Indian consumers, becoming the largest footwear retailer and manufacturer in the country.

With over 1,900 stores, both company-owned and franchised, and a strong omni-channel presence, Bata India sells approximately 50 million pairs annually. The company’s diverse portfolio includes Bata Red Label for trendy styles, Bata Comfit for comfort, Power for athleisure, NorthStar for youth-inspired sneakers, Floatz for casual footwear, Bubblegummers for kids, and Hush Puppies for elegant comfort, among others.
