Ahead of the Global Investors Meet (GIM), the Karnataka government secured a significant boost with the announcement of a ₹54,000 crore investment from the Baldota Group to establish an integrated steel plant in Koppal taluk. The plant will have a production capacity of 10.5 million tonnes per year. A government statement revealed that the company will sign a Memorandum of Agreement during the GIM on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah present.
Rahul Kumar N Baldota, Joint Managing Director of the Baldota Group, made the announcement, stating that the plant will be named Baldota Steel and Power Limited (BSPL). He emphasized that the project will increase steel production in Karnataka and create numerous employment opportunities for local communities. “Our goal is to make Baldota a leading player in the nation. This plant will undoubtedly become a point of pride for Karnataka in the steel sector,” said Rahul Kumar Baldota.
The Baldota Group is a prominent name in mineral exploration, mining, industrial gases, pellet production, wind power, shipping, and waste treatment. It also manages iron ore mines in Karnataka. With a 70-year history in mining, the Baldota Group has been awarded a five-star rating by the Centre for six consecutive years.
As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, the company has planted two million trees and adopted 20 villages, focusing on education, healthcare, sanitation, and women’s empowerment in rural areas. The Invest Karnataka 2025 Global Investors Meet will take place from February 12-14.
