Bajel Projects Limited, a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company specializing in power transmission infrastructure, has secured an ultra-mega order valued at more than ₹700 crore from the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL). The contract involves the development of a 400/220 kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation at Saswad in Pune district, along with associated high-voltage transmission lines.

The contract represents the largest single order in Bajel Projects’ power transmission portfolio to date and marks an important milestone in the company’s growth within India’s expanding energy infrastructure sector. The scope of the project covers the full turnkey EPC execution of the Saswad substation and its supporting transmission infrastructure. Responsibilities include detailed engineering design, equipment supply, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning. The work will encompass civil construction, electrical systems installation, and final commissioning to ensure the facility is fully operational and integrated with the state grid.

At the core of the project is the construction of a greenfield 400/220 kV AIS substation equipped with two 500 MVA transformers. The facility will also include a 125 MVAr bus reactor at the 400 kV level, designed to support voltage stability and improve overall grid performance. Importantly, the substation has been planned with provisions for future expansion, enabling it to accommodate additional capacity as electricity demand in the region continues to rise.

To integrate the new facility with Maharashtra’s existing transmission network, the project also includes the addition of transmission bays at three other substations. These enhancements will allow the Saswad substation to connect efficiently with the broader grid, enabling smooth power flow across the region.

The project further involves the construction of several high-voltage transmission lines, including new 400 kV and 220 kV corridors as well as Line-In Line-Out (LILO) configurations. These connections will link the Saswad facility with key nodes in the state’s power transmission network.

Located in Pune district, the Saswad substation is expected to play a vital role in strengthening Maharashtra’s electricity infrastructure. The region around Pune has experienced rapid industrial expansion and urban development in recent years, resulting in steadily increasing electricity demand. By improving transmission capacity and network resilience, the project will support reliable power supply for industries, commercial establishments, and residential communities.

Commenting on the contract award, Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bajel Projects Limited, described the order as a significant achievement for the company. He noted that securing the project reflects the company’s technical capability and experience in executing complex high-voltage infrastructure. According to Ganesh, a transmission facility of this scale in the Pune region represents critical infrastructure that will enhance the strength and reliability of Maharashtra’s power network while supporting the area’s growing industrial and urban energy needs.

He added that the project aligns with Bajel’s long-term RAASTA 2030 strategy, which focuses on expanding into high-value and technically demanding infrastructure projects. The contract also reinforces the company’s relationship with MSETCL, one of India’s key state transmission utilities.

Bajel Projects Limited is a prominent player in India’s power infrastructure sector, with extensive experience in both transmission and distribution projects. The company was previously part of Bajaj Electricals Limited under its EPC division and continues to operate with the engineering heritage and operational values associated with the Bajaj Group.

With a strong reputation for project management and execution excellence, Bajel has delivered numerous infrastructure projects for state utilities, national power agencies, and private developers across India and international markets. The Saswad substation project further strengthens the company’s position as a trusted partner in building the infrastructure required to support India’s growing energy demand.
