Bajaj Auto Ltd has announced that its board has approved an investment of up to Euro 150 million (approximately Rs 1,364 crore) in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV (BAIH BV), based in the Netherlands. The funds are intended to support the subsidiary’s investment needs.
The approval from Bajaj Auto’s board will see the capital injected into BAIH BV in one or more tranches, based on the company’s requirements, until March 31, 2026. The investment could take various forms, including equity, preference capital, or loans, either convertible or otherwise, depending on future determinations.
BAIH BV, which is fully owned by Bajaj Auto, is primarily engaged in investment activities. The company has obtained the necessary approvals from the Reserve Bank of India for this additional capital infusion.
While the specific investment opportunities have not been disclosed, the timing of the move coincides with reports suggesting that Bajaj Auto may increase its stake in KTM AG, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer currently undergoing judicial restructuring. Bajaj Auto holds a 49.9% stake in Pierer Bajaj AG (PBAG) through BAIH BV. PBAG, in turn, owns a significant stake in Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), which controls KTM AG.
Bajaj Auto has a long-standing partnership with KTM, developing and manufacturing products for the Indian market and exporting them to other regions. The restructuring of KTM’s parent company, Pierer Mobility AG, has not affected joint product developments but has impacted KTM’s business operations, particularly exports from Austria, India, and China to key markets in the U.S. and Europe.
