Bajaj Auto, one of India’s leading exporters of motorcycles and three-wheelers, has launched its first overseas manufacturing plant in Brazil through its subsidiary, Bajaj Do Brasil. This move aims to strengthen Bajaj’s position in Latin America’s largest two-wheeler market by gaining insights into product development and customer behavior.
Headquartered in Pune, Bajaj Auto operates in over 90 countries using a distribution-led model. The new plant in Manaus covers 9,600 square meters and features advanced manufacturing technology, including engine assembly, vehicle assembly, and testing facilities. It has a production capacity of 20,000 units per year in a single shift.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, said, “Our plant in Brazil boosts our ability to meet local demand. The Dominar brand has been well-received since its launch. This new plant helps us expand our network, introduce new products, and meet customer expectations. It shows our commitment to Brazil and the automotive industry.”
Bajaj Do Brasil plans to expand the plant to increase production capacity to 50,000 units per year. The plant will initially produce Dominar models and later Pulsar models. Construction started in June 2023 and the plant became production-ready within a year. The facility has ISO certification and sources key parts locally in Manaus.
