Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA), a global leader in coatings, and Dürr Systems AG, a prominent mechanical and plant engineering firm, have joined forces to deliver a cutting-edge digital paint solution. This partnership combines Axalta’s NextJet™ technology with Dürr’s expertise in robotics integration.
Digital paint, also known as overspray-free application, enables precise paint placement without the need for masking. As part of the agreement, Dürr will act as the robotics integrator for Axalta’s NextJet™ system, tailored for light vehicle Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
“The collaboration between Axalta and Dürr allows us to provide OEMs with a maskless solution for two-tone and graphic paint applications,” said Hadi Awada, President of Global Mobility Coatings at Axalta. “By merging Axalta’s coating expertise with Dürr’s robotics integration, we are shaping the future of digital paint technology.”
Dr Lars Friedrich, CEO of Dürr Systems AG, noted, “We are thrilled to partner with Axalta on the evolution of digital paint. Dürr’s experience in overspray-free application and understanding of OEM requirements for custom vehicle designs align perfectly with Axalta’s innovations. This collaboration accelerates the delivery of our joint technology to meet customer demands.”
This partnership builds on years of expertise both companies have invested in digital paint solutions. In 2023, Axalta and Xaar announced a collaboration to provide advanced digital paint technologies for light vehicle OEMs. Xaar remains a vital component of the digital paint solutions Axalta and Dürr will bring to market.
Demonstrations of Axalta’s NextJet™ technology integrated with Dürr robotics are already underway at Dürr’s test center in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany. OEMs interested in exploring this innovative technology are encouraged to contact their Axalta or Dürr representatives for further information.
