Automotive Test Systems (ATS) has partnered with Amrita University to open a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) testing lab at the university’s Coimbatore campus in Tamil Nadu. The new facility, an expansion of the Amrita Automotive Research and Technology Centre (AARTC), is designed to support research and development in the growing electric vehicle sector.
The lab is equipped with cutting-edge testing equipment, including a 48kW electric motor test bench, a battery test lab, and a simulation lab. It also features software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups integrated with the test bench. These resources will foster collaboration between industry and academia, advancing research in EV technology.
The opening ceremony was attended by industry leaders, including Latha Chembrakalam, VP and Head of Technical Centre India at Continental Automotive; Ramadhas Arumugam Sakunthalai, Director at GARC; Rajesh D, VP at Volvo Group Trucks Technology; Bhaktha Keshavachar, CEO of Chara Technologies; and Ramanathan Srinivasan, Managing Director of ATS. The event also included a two-day workshop focused on sustainable mobility, held at Amrita University.
Ramanathan Srinivasan, MD of ATS, commented: “The AARTC has been operational for 10 years, supporting both industry and academia with research across multiple areas such as powertrain, emission testing, vehicle dynamics, NVH, and ADAS. The new EV lab will help develop safer and more reliable products for the future.”
In addition to the new EV testing equipment, the lab also houses a 160kW test bench and a chassis dynamometer, both of which are widely used by the automotive industry for testing and developing EV components like electric motors and motor controllers.
