Automobili Lamborghini, the Italian luxury car manufacturer, is optimistic about India’s forthcoming hybrid vehicle policy, which they believe will unlock more growth opportunities in the country. On Friday, the company introduced the plug-in hybrid variant of its flagship SUV, the Urus, priced from Rs 4.57 crore (ex-showroom). Lamborghini plans to roll out additional hybrid models as they are launched globally.

“There is significant potential for growth in India. We’ve already witnessed substantial growth with the Urus introduction, and we expect this trend to continue in the coming year,” said Francesco Scardaoni, Automobili Lamborghini’s Asia Pacific Region Director, during the Urus SE launch event.

Lamborghini achieved record sales of 103 units in India in 2023, up from 92 units in 2022, marking a 33% increase. Outlining Lamborghini’s future plans, Scardaoni stated, “We are launching our fully hybridized product line, including the new Huracan successor, set to debut globally next week. We anticipate this model will be popular among our Indian customers.”

Scardaoni highlighted that the Indian government is working on hybrid vehicle policies, which could benefit Lamborghini. “We hope these policies will be favorable for brands like Lamborghini, facilitating further growth in India,” he said.

The Urus SE features a re-engineered twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine paired with an electric powertrain. The luxury SUV can travel over 60 km in full-electric mode, according to the company. Deliveries of the Urus SE in India are expected to commence next year.

Lamborghini is optimistic about the Indian market’s potential, noting that the country’s growth aligns with India being the world’s fastest-growing economy.
