Autodesk has announced the extension of its regional data storage services to India, giving businesses and public sector organizations the ability to store and manage project data within the country. This initiative is particularly significant for sectors such as government, infrastructure, and utilities, where data localization and regulatory compliance are critical. The move enables Indian organizations to meet these requirements while benefiting from high standards of security, privacy, and data recovery.
Insights from Autodesk’s 2025 State of Design & Make report show that digital transformation is delivering up to 50% return on investment in key performance areas like innovation, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) industries. However, in India, 37% of organizations report hesitancy in adopting such tools due to concerns around data safety. The introduction of local storage directly addresses these concerns, enabling secure cloud collaboration with data hosted regionally.
With this development, users of Autodesk Docs, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, and Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro can now select India as their primary data storage region. This added flexibility is in line with Autodesk’s ongoing effort to provide customers with more control over how and where they manage their data, ensuring smoother project collaboration in line with local needs and expectations.
“India stands at a critical juncture in its digital infrastructure evolution, where rapid growth is paired with the need for data-driven solutions,” said Kamolika Peres Gupta, Vice President, India and SAARC, Autodesk. “As companies seek to advance their digital initiatives, regional data hosting becomes essential in building trust, improving transparency, and streamlining collaboration. This new offering empowers both private enterprises and public institutions to adopt cloud-enabled design and construction practices with confidence.”
Peres Gupta further added, “India continues to be a key market for Autodesk. We are launching dedicated solutions tailored to local demands, and the availability of regional storage reflects our commitment to support India’s goals for building resilient, technology-enabled infrastructure.” Autodesk’s regional offerings are hosted through its long-standing collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
“AWS is proud to support Autodesk in extending regional storage to India,” said Colin Lazier, Vice President of Databases at AWS. “By leveraging our global infrastructure, Autodesk is addressing the growing demand for data residency across markets such as the UK, Germany, Japan, Canada, and now India. This ensures the performance, reliability, and compliance that professionals in AECO sectors expect, while enabling them to progress on their digital transformation journey.”
With this latest expansion, India joins a global list of regions, including the United States, European Union, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Canada, where Autodesk provides localized data storage options. Earlier in June 2025, Autodesk also rolled out localized Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools specifically designed to meet India’s evolving infrastructure needs for smarter, efficient, and sustainable development.
