Atul Auto Limited and Exponent Energy have announced a strategic collaboration to develop and deploy rapid charging electric passenger three-wheelers, marking a significant push towards accelerating electric mobility adoption in India. As part of the agreement, the companies have committed to deploying at least 15,000 vehicles powered by Exponent’s technology over the next three years.

The partnership combines Atul Auto’s manufacturing experience with Exponent Energy’s rapid charging solutions to deliver electric vehicles designed for commercial use. The vehicles will integrate Exponent’s OTO mobility platform, which brings together battery systems, powertrain components and vehicle software into a unified architecture. Initially proven through retrofit deployments, the platform will now be incorporated into new vehicles at the manufacturing stage.

A key feature of the collaboration is the introduction of rapid charging capability that enables a full charge in approximately 15 minutes. This is expected to significantly reduce downtime for drivers, improving vehicle utilisation and daily earnings potential. The system is designed to deliver consistent performance under high-usage conditions and is supported by a warranty covering up to 2 lakh kilometres, addressing concerns related to battery durability and lifecycle costs.

In addition to fast charging infrastructure, the vehicles will also be compatible with standard public and home charging networks, offering flexibility for operators. This interoperability ensures that drivers are not limited to a single charging ecosystem and can choose charging options based on convenience.

To support adoption, Exponent Energy has introduced a financing platform that will provide tailored financial solutions for buyers. The offering includes structured financing options along with insurance and buyback arrangements, aimed at reducing upfront costs and improving affordability for commercial vehicle operators.

Company representatives indicated that the collaboration is focused on addressing key barriers to electric vehicle adoption, including charging time, cost of ownership and financing access. By combining advanced technology with established manufacturing capabilities, the initiative aims to deliver practical and scalable solutions for the commercial mobility segment.

Atul Auto has an established presence in the three-wheeler market, with operations across multiple states in India and exports to over 20 countries. Exponent Energy, founded in 2020, specialises in energy solutions for electric vehicles, focusing on rapid charging systems and integrated technology platforms.

Through this partnership, both companies aim to expand the adoption of electric three-wheelers, particularly in urban and semi-urban markets, contributing to the transition towards cleaner and more efficient transportation solutions in India.
