Maharashtra has taken another significant step towards consolidating its status as a hub for advanced industrial operations with the signing of a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Maharashtra and Atlas Copco (India) Private Limited.
Under the agreement, Atlas Copco will invest ₹575 crore to establish its new India Headquarters at Dapodi, Pimpri-Chinchwad (PCMC), Pune. The project is expected to generate around 3,400 employment opportunities, while also strengthening the state’s manufacturing and industrial equipment ecosystem.
The MoU was formalized in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who lauded the initiative as a reflection of the state’s pro-investment policies and its ability to attract global leaders in industrial technology. Senior delegates from Atlas Copco (India) were also present at the signing ceremony.
Atlas Copco, a global leader in industrial tools, air compressors, construction, and mining equipment, has had a strong presence in India for decades. With this new headquarters, the company is not only expanding its physical footprint but also signaling long-term confidence in India’s industrial growth story.
“The decision of Atlas Copco to set up its headquarters in Pune highlights Maharashtra’s position as a preferred destination for advanced manufacturing and innovation. This investment will create jobs, bring in new technologies, and further strengthen the state’s industrial capacity,” Mr Fadnavis said during the signing.
The creation of 3,400 jobs will also have a significant socio-economic impact on the Pimpri-Chinchwad belt, one of Maharashtra’s most dynamic industrial clusters. The project is expected to generate opportunities across engineering, management, digital operations, and support services, further nurturing the region’s skilled workforce.
Industry observers note that the move is well-aligned with the Government of India’s larger initiatives, such as Make in India and Digital India, both of which aim to promote self-reliance, industrial modernization, and digital transformation in manufacturing. By anchoring its India operations in Pune, Atlas Copco is expected to contribute to capacity-building, skilling, and the development of high-value industrial solutions that can serve both domestic and global markets.
