Ather Energy Names Anjani Kumar as Chief Digital Officer

Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker, announced on May 30 that Anjani Kumar has been appointed as the new Chief Digital & Information Officer. Mr Kumar will be responsible for leading the company’s digital strategy and overseeing the technology infrastructure that supports product development, manufacturing, and customer service.

This leadership change comes as Ather Energy continues to expand its product offerings and explore new business models while incorporating advanced software capabilities. Mr Kumar will manage teams across WebTech, IT & Security, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Business Intelligence, and Digital Engineering.

With 24 years of experience in driving digital transformation and IT innovation, Mr Kumar has held key roles in several industries, including automotive, technology, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and financial services. His previous leadership positions were at top global companies such as IBM, Nissan, Cognizant, Strides Pharma, and Tata AIG.

“As our organization grows rapidly with new products, business models, and deeper software integration, the complexity naturally increases,” said Swapnil Jain, Executive Director and CTO at Ather Energy. “Developing strong systems that leverage AI and enterprise data will be crucial to our continued growth.”

Mr Kumar holds a Post Graduate degree in Marketing & Management from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Rourkela. He has also earned accolades such as ‘Digital Leader of the Year’ and ‘India’s Top CIO.’

Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy offers two primary product lines: theAther 450 performance scooters and the AtherRizta family scooters. The company also launched India’s first fast-charging network for two-wheelers, known as Ather Grid.

By March 2025, Ather had installed 3,611 fast and neighborhood chargers worldwide, including 3,578 in India and 33 in Nepal and Sri Lanka. The company holds 309 registered trademarks, 203 registered designs, and 47 patents, with additional applications in progress. As India’s electric two-wheeler market continues to expand, Ather Energy aims to remain a leader by focusing on technology and data-driven operations, positioning itself at the forefront of the sustainable transportation movement.
