Assam is preparing to host its first semiconductor packaging plant through a partnership between the state government and the Tata Group. During the ‘Digital India Future Skills Summit’ in Guwahati, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, revealed this advancement, emphasizing the upcoming job prospects in the semiconductor industry.
Founded in 1868, Tata Group is a global enterprise with a presence in over 100 countries, encompassing a wide range of industries including steel, automotive, telecommunications, and hospitality. With a commitment to improving the quality of life of communities, Tata Group has diversified interests in sectors such as technology, consumer goods, and energy.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar attributed the success of this partnership to the astute leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, commending his efforts in expediting project approvals with remarkable efficiency.
He emphasized the paramount significance of equipping the youth of India with proficiency in cutting-edge domains such as AI, cybersecurity, and semiconductors, aligning seamlessly with Prime Minister Modi’s ambitious vision for the nation’s technological advancement.
Furthermore, PM Modi’s comprehensive strategy encompasses pioneering initiatives like ‘futureDESIGN,’ ‘futureLABS,’ and ‘futureSKILLS,’ all meticulously designed to foster a culture of innovation and equip the younger generation with the requisite skills for the burgeoning sectors of tomorrow.
Chief Minister Sarma reiterated the commitment of Tata Electronics Private Limited to establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor assembly and packaging facility in Jagiroad, signaling a substantial investment of £40 billion, thus fortifying Assam’s stature as a pivotal player in the global semiconductor landscape.
