In a significant corporate move, Asim Behera, the stalwart who played a pivotal role in introducing Daifuku to the Indian market, has been reappointed as the President of Daifuku Intralogistics India Pvt Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Daifuku Japan. Daifuku, the Japanese multinational corporation that specialises in material handling and intralogistics solutions, acquired an Indian company, Vega Conveyors & Automation Private Limited, which has been renamed Daifuku Intralogistics India Private Limited.

Asim Behera joined Daifuku in January 2013 as its General Manager for the Factory and Distribution industries. His consistent dedication and leadership led him to be Chief Operating Officer for the Japanese multinational’s Indian operations. Moreover, he held an esteemed position on the Executive Board till June 2021. Following this, he briefly transitioned to Coupang in South Korea, contributing as its Senior Director for Automation in Intralogistics.

An enthusiastic Asim Behera commented on his latest appointment, “Daifuku and Material Handling have always remained close to my heart. I am profoundly humbled by the Board’s decision, to entrust me with this leadership role. As Daifuku embraces the ‘Make in India’ initiative, I foresee a radiant future ahead. I eagerly await to reconnect with all peers, old and new partners. Ensuring our customers remain central to our endeavours, I am committed to advancing this principle.”

Daifuku, a global leader in material handling, owes much of its Indian success to Behera’s vision and tenacity. He not only pioneered the automation of factories via ASRS and other handling automation in India but was also instrumental in driving Daifuku’s strategic acquisition of Vega Conveyors & Automation in Hyderabad. This acquisition stands as a testament to Daifuku’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

With the Indian market rapidly pivoting towards automation, Daifuku is poised at a juncture teeming with opportunities. Asim Behera’s return and subsequent appointment come at this critical moment, further solidifying Daifuku’s intent to play a central role in India’s automation landscape.
