OHM Global Mobility, the electric mobility division of Ashok Leyland, has received an order for 500 ultra-low floor electric buses from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai. These 12-meter buses are designed to comfortably accommodate 37 seated passengers, with an additional capacity for 24 standing passengers. Each bus offers a range exceeding 200 kilometers on a single charge.
Under the agreement, Switch Mobility, another Ashok Leyland subsidiary, will provide the Switch EiV12 model buses. OHM will be responsible for operating and maintaining the buses for a period of 12 years. Out of the total order, 400 buses will be non-air-conditioned, while 100 will feature air conditioning.

Currently, Switch Mobility operates over 950 vehicles, and with this new order, the company has a solid order book of more than 2,000 vehicles. The SWITCH EiV12 buses utilize a robust 650V electric architecture and come equipped with IP67-rated batteries, ensuring both durability and safety.
To support the operation of these buses, charging infrastructure will be established at six key depots: Perumbur, Perumbakam, Poonamalle, Vyasapandi, Thondiapet, and KK Nagar. These charging stations will facilitate efficient operations, minimizing downtime and ensuring reliable service across the city.
