Ashok Leyland, a leading commercial vehicle maker from India’s Hinduja Group, has partnered with Billion Electric Mobility, a subsidiary of the BillionE Group, to introduce a new line of electric trucks. This move signifies a major step forward in India’s emerging electric vehicle (EV) sector. The newly launched models include the AVTR 55T Electric, BOSS 19T Electric, and BOSS 14T Electric.

The company has secured an order for 180 electric trucks, valued at ₹150 crore, comprising both BOSS electric trucks and 55T electric tractors. Deliveries are set to begin in the last quarter of FY2025. Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, described it as potentially the largest electric truck order in India to date, with production gradually ramping up at their Hosur facility.

Kartikey Hariyani, CEO of Billion E-Mobility and ChargeZone, explained the broader vision behind the collaboration, positioning e-mobility as a service for industries like FMCG, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Hariyani emphasized the long-term goal of cost parity with diesel, reducing India’s dependence on oil imports. His company is also tackling the challenge of EV charging infrastructure by building a network of fast-charging stations along major highways. These stations will allow electric trucks to fully charge in just 60 minutes, aligning with drivers’ rest breaks and enhancing long-distance e-truck viability.
