Arvind Limited, one of India’s largest integrated textile and apparel companies, in collaboration with global fashion leader H&M Group and Indian technology innovator Deven Supercriticals Pvt Ltd, has unveiled India’s first commercial-scale supercritical CO₂ dyeing machine at Arvind’s facility in Ahmedabad. This game-changing installation, based on the patented SUPRAUNO® technology, marks a major advancement in sustainable textile manufacturing.
The supercritical CO₂ dyeing machine replaces traditional water-based dyeing with a process that uses supercritical carbon dioxide—significantly cutting down on water, energy, and chemical usage. Compared to conventional dyeing methods, it achieves up to 76% water savings, reduces energy consumption by about 67%, and lowers chemical usage by 90%, while also minimizing effluent discharge. This development reflects a collaborative model for innovation, where Deven Supercriticals brought the technology, Arvind scaled it industrially, and H&M Group supported its commercial adoption as part of its sustainability vision.
Commenting on the milestone, Punit Lalbhai, Vice Chairman of Arvind Ltd, said, “Bringing the world’s first commercial SUPRAUNO® machine to India reaffirms our commitment to environmentally responsible innovation. This step shows that sustainability and industrial scale can coexist, creating global benchmarks in the process.” Omang Narang, Production Manager for H&M Group India, added, “Technologies like this are crucial for the decarbonization of the fashion industry. Wet processing is one of the most resource-intensive stages, and improving its efficiency is essential to meet our climate goals.”
Dr Swapneshu Baser, Founder of Deven Supercriticals, noted, “Seeing SUPRAUNO® come to life at commercial scale in India is a proud moment for us. It’s a leap toward preserving water, energy, and public health. We thank Arvind and H&M Group for their belief in this homegrown technology.”
The inauguration has also received strong backing from the Ministry of Textiles, aligning with the Government of India’s broader mission to promote sustainable, circular practices and innovation in the textile sector. The launch of this facility not only showcases Indian technology at the forefront of global textile transformation but also sets a model for eco-friendly industrial practices.
H&M Group, founded in Sweden in 1947, is a global fashion group with multiple brands and a strong focus on sustainable fashion practices. Deven Supercriticals Pvt Ltd is a leading Indian innovation company specializing in Supercritical Fluid (SCF) technologies. Its SUPRAUNO® platform is the world’s first to enable water-free dyeing using conventional dyes in supercritical CO₂, suitable for a wide range of natural and synthetic fibers. This partnership marks a significant leap toward resource-efficient textile production—an essential step in addressing the environmental impact of the global fashion industry.
