ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between global steel leaders ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has announced the launch of Optigal, a premium color-coated steel brand featuring advanced Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium (ZAM) coating technology. This product marks the first time ArcelorMittal’s patented high-end steel, known for its value-added properties, is being manufactured and distributed in India by AM/NS India.

CEO Dilip Oommen unveiled Optigal at an event in Kochi, Kerala, underscoring the company’s commitment to the Make in India initiative. Optigal offers an industry-leading warranty of up to 25 years, setting a new standard in the Indian specialty steel market.

Production of Optigal has commenced at AM/NS India’s Pune facility in Maharashtra, marking the beginning of a strategic expansion plan that aims to increase the company’s color-coated steel capacity from its current 700,000 tonnes to 1 million tonnes by 2026. This expansion is expected to raise AM/NS India’s market share from 20-22% to 25-27%, bolstering its presence in the competitive steel market.

Optigal’s ZAM alloy technology involves coating steel strips with a blend of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, enhancing performance and durability. The product’s superior formability and corrosion resistance make it ideal for various construction applications, including roofing, fencing, and cladding, as well as pre-engineered buildings and architectural facades. Additionally, Optigal is environmentally friendly, free of hexavalent chromium and heavy metals, aligning with the industry’s sustainability goals.

Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at AM/NS India, emphasized that the launch of Optigal represents a significant expansion of the company’s product offerings, reinforcing its commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable steel solutions across India.
