On Children’s Day, the Anil Agarwal Foundation signed an MoU with the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) to upgrade 500 Anganwadi centers in Jharsuguda into advanced NandGhars. These centers are designed to serve as hubs for women and child development, offering holistic services in education, nutrition, healthcare, and skill training. The signing ceremony, held at the MCL Community Centre in Beheramal, was attended by prominent dignitaries including District Magistrate Smt Aboli Naravane, Revenue Minister Shri Suresh Pujari, and MLA Shri Tankadhar Tripathy.
Vedanta Aluminium, located in Jharsuguda, plays a significant role in the community’s development. Its employees actively participate in initiatives covering health, education, and culture, fostering sustainable growth. Highlighting the company’s commitment, Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of empowering women and children for a brighter future.
District Magistrate Smt Aboli Naravane commended Vedanta’s efforts, noting that NandGhars create safe, nurturing spaces for children and women. MLA Shri TankadharTripathy further emphasized the partnership’s potential to drive meaningful grassroots development.
The day also featured the “DukanJatra” Children’s Day event, engaging over 3,500 participants, including students and Vedanta employees. Highlights included an Entrepreneurship Showcase, where students operated 60+ stalls offering handmade crafts and food items, promoting creativity and entrepreneurial skills.
Since its launch in 2015, the NandGhar initiative, under the Anil Agarwal Foundation and in collaboration with the Ministry of Women & Child Development, has delivered impactful services. Currently, 175 NandGhars in Jharsuguda serve 7,000 children across 127 villages, providing pre-school education, nutritious meals, healthcare, and skill development programs, alongside facilities like solar lighting, water purifiers, and nutrition gardens.
Vedanta’s social initiatives span 80 villages, benefiting over 3 lakh people annually. From empowering 5,000 women in 350 SHGs to delivering healthcare to 50,000 individuals and supporting 13,000 students, the company remains committed to sustainable community growth.
