The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is making a significant impact by empowering individuals with disabilities (Divyangjans) from rural regions, helping them achieve sustainable livelihoods. Through its new Empowerment Centre for Persons with Disabilities, AMTZ, in partnership with the Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneurship Association (IDEA), offers a comprehensive program designed to provide more than just assistive technology. The program includes entrepreneurship training, seed funding, market connections, and long-term mentorship, equipping Divyangjans to become both business owners and skilled professionals.
The initiative kicked off with a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Training Program at AMTZ’s Assistive Technology Centre. The first group of 30 participants, hailing from 14 villages around the MedTech Zone, received hands-on training to help them launch their own businesses. The program provides essential support, including seed funding, market linkages, and two years of ongoing mentorship.
In addition to creating entrepreneurial opportunities, AMTZ is also offering direct employment within its own ecosystem, sourcing products from Divyangjan entrepreneurs to ensure their continued financial growth. This approach integrates skill development with economic independence, enabling Divyangjans to contribute meaningfully to the economy.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD & CEO of AMTZ, shared the organization’s broader vision: “At AMTZ, we not only provide artificial limbs and assistive devices but also focus on creating sustainable livelihoods that unlock the full potential of Divyangjans.”
IDEA, a non-profit organization active across 11 states, plays a key role in training and mentoring Divyangjans. Mallikarjuna Iytha, Founder & CEO of IDEA, expressed the shared mission: “IDEA is aligned with AMTZ’s vision of empowerment. Our goal is to uplift Divyangjans by offering skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities, enabling them to become active participants in society and the economy.”
This initiative is just the beginning. Moving forward, AMTZ and IDEA plan to expand their efforts across Visakhapatnam and the wider Andhra Pradesh region, reaching more Divyangjans and providing them with the tools they need to achieve financial independence. Those interested in joining the program or supporting the cause can reach out to the Assistive Technology Centre at AMTZ to become part of this transformative effort.
