In a landmark step toward enhancing global healthcare resilience, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) officially launched the International Biomed Cross (IBC)—a global initiative focused on maintaining and restoring critical medical equipment during natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies.
Unveiled during the MedTech Policy Mahotsav held at the Constitutional Club of India in New Delhi, the IBC is designed to serve as a frontline technical response team, deploying biomedical and clinical engineers to support hospitals and emergency units in regions with limited medical infrastructure. The event was led by Dr Jitendra Sharma, Founder and Managing Director of AMTZ, in the presence of key stakeholders from India’s healthcare and medical technology ecosystem.
“In times of disaster, broken equipment is as deadly as unavailable equipment,” said Dr Sharma. “The International Biomed Cross is our answer to that gap. This is India’s humanitarian and technological response to global healthcare disruptions.”
The IBC will be powered by a growing network of volunteers—biomedical engineers and health technology specialists—who will offer hands-on repair, maintenance, and remote support for medical devices in emergency zones. In addition to its emergency response mission, the initiative will focus on strengthening long-term healthcare capacity in underserved areas by facilitating equipment donations, skill-building, and knowledge exchange.
Launched in collaboration with the Universal Clinical Engineering Federation (UCEF), the IBC marks a major contribution by India to global MedTech innovation and emergency health preparedness. AMTZ is now inviting volunteers, donors, and healthcare organizations across the world to join this vital mission.
