Ampere Vehicles Set to Unveil New Nexus Electric Scooter on April 30

Excitement is brewing in the electric mobility sector as Greaves Electric Mobility and Ampere Vehicles gear up to introduce the highly anticipated Ampere Nexus electric scooter to the Indian market on April 30.

The Ampere Nexus, derived from the production-spec NXG e-scooter showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, is poised to become the flagship model in Ampere’s electric vehicle lineup, boasting several groundbreaking features. Among its highlights, the Ampere Nexus will offer four distinct riding modes and will be equipped with an LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) battery, marking a significant advancement for the company.

Additionally, it will be the first Ampere e-scooter to feature a front disc brake, enhancing safety and performance for riders. The scooter’s unveiling at the Auto Expo 2023 also revealed a large digital display, although the specifics of whether it will be a TFT or LCD unit are yet to be confirmed. During the expo, Ampere touted the NXG concept, which evolved into the Nexus, with a claimed range of 120km on a single charge. However, details regarding the battery capacity and whether this claim aligns with certified standards or real-world performance remain undisclosed.

Ampere’s emphasis on safety is evident in its choice of LFP battery chemistry, known for its favorable thermal characteristics. While offering enhanced safety, LFP batteries typically have lower energy density compared to the more common NMC counterpart.

In terms of pricing, while the Ampere Primus currently sits at Rs 1,46,355 (ex-showroom, Delhi), expectations suggest that the new Ampere Nexus will command a higher price point, reflecting its advanced features and positioning within India’s electric two-wheeler market.

In the fiscal year 2024, which witnessed a record sale of over 944,000 electric two-wheelers, the combined sales of Greaves Electric Mobility and Ampere Vehicles totaled 55,043 units, securing a 6% market share and the fifth position after Ola Electric, TVS Motor Co, Ather Energy, and Bajaj Auto.

With the impending launch of the Ampere Nexus, industry observers eagerly anticipate whether this innovative offering will inject fresh momentum into the company’s market presence.
