AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) has introduced the Alveo™ UL3422 accelerator card, a new addition to its high-performance accelerator lineup, tailored for ultra-low latency electronic trading applications. The Alveo UL3422 offers trading firms, financial institutions, and market makers a compact, cost-efficient solution, optimized for fast deployment across a variety of servers and data centers.
Powered by the AMD Virtex™ UltraScale+™ FPGA, the Alveo UL3422 leverages a specialized transceiver architecture with enhanced network connectivity cores, designed specifically for high-speed trading. It achieves ultra-low latency, providing less than 3 nanoseconds of FPGA transceiver delay and industry-leading “tick-to-trade” performance not found in off-the-shelf FPGAs.
“Speed is a critical factor in high-speed trading,” said Yousef Khalilollahi, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Adaptive Computing Group. “The Alveo UL3422 card offers a lower-cost entry point while maintaining top-tier latency performance, making it accessible to firms of all sizes aiming to remain competitive in the ultra-low latency trading arena.”
The Alveo UL3422 is housed in a slim full-height, half-length (FHHL) form factor, designed to integrate into a wide range of servers and co-location data centers. Despite reduced port density, on-board memory, and connectivity options, it retains the same ultra-low latency performance as its predecessor, the Alveo UL3524, which currently holds the STAC-T0 benchmark world record for “tick-to-trade” speed. The smaller size of the UL3422 allows financial institutions to maximize compute density and optimize rack space efficiently.
The Alveo UL3422 card is designed for quick deployment by leveraging available infrastructure ecosystem solutions and reference designs. It is supported by a growing network of partners who provide IP and development tools to accelerate trading solution implementation.
Key collaborators include:
- Exegy, which supports the UL3422 with its nxFramework, a development environment for building ultra-low latency FPGA applications.
- Hypertec, whose HF X410R-G6 server is certified to fully support the UL3422, making it the first 1U server optimized for the card.
- Xelera Technologies, which provides tools to enhance machine learning algorithms in high-frequency trading with real-time, AI-driven decision-making.
The Alveo UL3422 supports traditional FPGA workflows via the AMD Vivado™ Design Suite and includes reference designs to help developers quickly create custom trading strategies. It also integrates with the FINN development framework for deploying AI models into high-performance trading systems, using quantization techniques to minimize model size while preserving accuracy.
The AMD Alveo UL3422 is now available in production volumes for global financial services customers. For over 50 years, AMD has been a leader in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies. Fortune 500 companies, research institutions, and millions of users rely on AMD technology to enhance their daily lives and work. AMD continues to push the limits of innovation in computing and adaptive products.
