AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) has successfully completed its acquisition of ZT Systems, a leading provider of AI and general-purpose compute infrastructure for hyperscale data center providers. This acquisition will pave the way for AMD to deliver a new class of end-to-end AI solutions, integrating AMD’s CPU, GPU, and networking technologies with ZT Systems’ rack-scale systems capabilities. The combined offering will accelerate the deployment of AMD-powered AI infrastructure optimized for large-scale cloud environments.
The acquisition is expected to contribute positively to AMD’s financials on a non-GAAP basis by the end of 2025. Following the transaction, ZT Systems’ expert design teams will become part of AMD’s Data Center Solutions business unit, led by Forrest Norrod, Executive Vice President at AMD. AMD is also exploring potential partnerships to acquire ZT Systems’ U.S.-based data center manufacturing business in 2025.
“For our customers, reducing the time required to design and deploy large-scale AI systems will provide a significant competitive advantage,” said Forrest Norrod, EVP and General Manager of the Data Center Solutions unit at AMD. “This acquisition is a key step in our AI strategy, allowing us to offer optimized training and inference solutions at scale, built on an open ecosystem that combines open-source software, standard networking technologies, and ZT Systems’ expertise in systems design and customer enablement.” Frank Zhang, the former CEO and Founder of ZT Systems, will join AMD as Senior Vice President of ZT Manufacturing, while Doug Huang, former President of ZT Systems, will lead Data Center Platform Engineering at AMD.
