Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M), has inaugurated its new battery pack plant and laid the foundation for a Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district.

The event was marked by the presence of notable figures such as Steven Cai, Board Member and President EMEA; Diego Graffi, CMD of Piaggio Vehicles India; Ashish Jangale, VP and Head SSU at Mahindra & Mahindra; Swapnil Jain, Co-founder of Ather Energy; Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of ARE&M; and Harshavardhana and Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Directors of ARE&M. Government officials and industry leaders also attended the ceremony.

The newly inaugurated Phase 1 of the battery pack plant boasts a capacity of 1.5 GWh. This facility will produce Li-ion battery packs tailored for the Indian market and will cater to major electric vehicle (EV) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as stationary energy storage needs. The CQP, set to commence operations in the first quarter of the next financial year, will be equipped to manufacture various cell types for customer testing and validation. This initiative has gained momentum following ARE&M’s recent partnership with Gotion Inobat (GIB) for technology and manufacturing solutions.

The Giga Corridor, spanning 260 acres, represents a Rs 9,500 crore investment through 2031 and will feature both advanced cell manufacturing and battery pack facilities. Additionally, ARE&M is constructing the ePositive Energy Labs in Hyderabad, an advanced energy research and innovation center.

In conjunction with the inauguration and foundation laying, Amara Raja signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio. This agreement involves the development and supply of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Li-ion cells and chargers for Piaggio’s EV three-wheelers and the local production of cells and battery packs for their upcoming two-wheeler models. An earlier MoU with Ather Energy was also announced.

Jayadev Galla, Chairman & Managing Director of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, remarked, “Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a transformative journey for this region. We are committed to creating sustainable job opportunities for local youth through the Gigacorridor and are thankful for the support from the Telangana Government.”

Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Director at ARE&M, added, “The CQP is a pioneering facility in India that will enable us to develop customized cell chemistry for our clients. This initiative will significantly contribute to advancing India’s energy transition.”
