Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M) has announced in its latest annual report that construction of its lithium-ion cell pilot plant is nearing completion. The facility is expected to be operational by the close of the 2025–26 financial year.
The pilot unit is designed to handle various cell chemistries and form factors, and will act as a customer qualification platform. It will allow the company to manufacture production-scale batches of battery cells using finalized designs, while also validating processes for its future large-scale manufacturing sites.
In parallel, Amara Raja is preparing to open its advanced research and development hub, named ‘e+ Energy Labs’, which is also scheduled for completion by the end of the fiscal year. The facility will focus on developing proprietary technologies and strengthening internal capabilities.
“We are steadily progressing on both external collaborations and in-house innovation. Our team has grown with talent brought in from across the globe, which has helped enhance our design and development efforts for lithium cells,” said Vikramadhithya Gourineni, Executive Director – New Energy, at Amara Raja Energy & Mobility.
The company is also advancing work on the first phase of its lithium cell manufacturing plant, which will initially have a 2 GWh annual capacity. The facility has been designed with flexibility to scale production up to 16 GWh in the coming years.
